AFCEA Boston's contribution of $2,500 helped make the recent Care Package Drive a large success.
We have already received many thank you cards/emails from deployed troops. One 1SG in Iraq wrote:
"The boost of moral that you are providing is indescribable. You stated in your letter about bringing a smile our way, you did just that. Thank you"
And a marine officer sent us the following:
"My unit is an eleven-man Military Transition Team (MiTT), with 10 Marines and an Army medic. We have mentored, lived with, and fought alongside an Iraqi infantry battalion since May. The battalion is the 3d Bn, 1st BDE, Iraqi Intervention Force. Our deployment took us all around Iraq--at first, we operated mainly in and around Baghdad, but then we headed out to western Iraq for the majority of our tour. When your packages arrived, we were living in a schoolhouse that we took over from the insurgents in a town called Ramana (on the Euphrates River, near the Iraq-Syria border). As you might imagine, we didn't get much creature comforts in Ramana (or much contact with the outside world). So, the packages really meant a lot to us. We just returned to our home base in Baghdad and expect to be home before the end of the month (four of the team members are based in Massachusetts). Serving over here isn't easy, but the bravery and professionalism the young Americans over here display every day make it worthwhile. And the Iraqi soldiers in our battalion made me proud--they have been doing a great job of rooting out the insurgents in their country. They have a ways to go, but they are making progress. On behalf of my team, thanks again for the great support. I'm sending along a couple of pictures of the team from Al-Anbar."
